Deputies respond to Walgreen's following the report of two subjects inside the store stealing merchandise

INCIDENT: PC 490.5 - Petty Theft from a Retail Merchant / H&S 11364(a) - Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
LOCATION: 27951 BASELINE STREET, HIGHLAND
SUSPECT(S): #1) Christian Winkler, age 26 a transient from Redlands / #2) Joshua Ledford, age 29 of Bessemer City, North Carolina
VICTIM(S): WALGREEN'S
SUMMARY:
On Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at about 7:05 p.m., deputies from the Highland Police Department responded to the Walgreen's regarding two suspects stealing store merchandise. Winkler and Ledford entered the business and wandered around the store for several minutes while placing items into their backpacks. Deputies contacted Winkler and Ledford as they exited the store. The two of them had approximately $220 worth of merchandise inside their backpacks.
During the investigation, deputies also discovered Ledford and Winkler each had illegal drug paraphernalia - hypodermic syringes in their possession and arrest warrants for other non-related criminal charges in San Bernardino County.
The stolen merchandise was returned to employees at the Walgreen's. Ledford and Winkler were arrested for Petty Theft from a Retail Store/Merchant and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. They were booked at the Central Detention Center. If eligible, they will be scheduled for a court date and issued a citation to appear in court at a later date and time.
