On February 26, 2020 at approximately 7:45 AM, the Angels Camp Police Department received a call of a suspicious person that had been watching children from a vehicle in the area of Mark Twain Elementary School. The caller reported that the person had left the area of Mark Twain Elementary and was parked near Bret Harte High School at the time of the call.
An Angels Camp Police Department officer responded to the area and located the vehicle in the 300 block of South Main Street. After speaking to and identifying the person, the officer determined that there was no immediate threat to our schools and the community. The person was told why their actions were concerning to our schools, parents, and the community. The person told the officer that they were waiting for a nearby business to open and agreed to leave the area voluntarily.
Community safety is our top priority at the Angels Camp Police Department. We appreciate the calls from our community regarding this incident. Vigilant community members reporting suspicious activities to the Angels Camp Police Department helps us work proactively to keep our community safe.
