Monday afternoon pursuit in Vigo County ends in arrest.
On March 2nd at 3:31pm, Deputy Pirtle with the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office attempted to make a traffic stop on a silver Mercedes Benz in the area of 13th and Poplar streets. Deputy Pirtle recognized the driver as Nathanial Wells, wanted on a warrant issued in a Vigo County Court. The vehicle was also displaying false and fictitious license plates. The vehicle refused to stop, resulting in a pursuit. The pursuit continued for several miles going to the south and then back to the north, traveling in the county and city. Several other units from the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office and the Terre Haute Police Department assisted. An assisting deputy was able to deploy “stop sticks” at 25th and Margaret Av, where the suspect’s vehicle ran them over. Eventually the suspect’s vehicle became disabled and stopped in the area of 27th and Washington streets. The suspect then fled on foot, but was captured shortly thereafter by a Sheriff’s K-9. The suspect, Nathanial Wells was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for treatment. The suspect was charged with several crimes including vehicle theft, felony resisting, criminal mischief, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving and the arrest warrant.
