Comments by Student Not Deemed a Credible Threat #ThousandOaksPolice
On February 21, 2020, a male student at Sycamore Canyon School reportedly made inappropriate comments relating to violence that caused students concern. The male student made additional inappropriate comments later in the week that also caused concern. The incidents were investigated by the Thousand Oaks Police Department and determined not to be a safety concern. No crime was committed and there is no danger to students and school staff.
A concerned parent also reported the incidents to the Police Department. Thousand Oaks school resource officers and patrol deputies contacted the student, parents, conducted additional interviews, and determined the comments made by the male student were not credible. Deputies determined the student does not have access to firearms or dangerous weapons. All administrative processes regarding this incident will be handled by Sycamore Canyon School and the Conejo Valley Unified School District. Deputies have shown an increased presence at the school to ease parents’ safety concerns.
A reminder for parents to continue encouraging their children to report any concerning or potentially concerning information immediately to school staff or the Police Department.
