MAIT Investigators arrested a woman who was driving under the influence and caused a fatal traffic collision

DATE/TIME: Monday, March 2, 2020 / 6:40 p.m.

INCIDENT: Fatal Vehicle Collision

LOCATION: Tippecanoe Avenue and 3rd Street, Highland

SUSPECT: Rachel Hibbert, 36-year-old female, resident of Phelan
Driving a 2018 GMC Sierra

VICTIM: 27-year-old female, name withheld pending next of kin notification
Driving a Kia Soul

SUMMARY:
On March 2, 2020 at approximately 6:40 pm, Highland deputies responded to a two-vehicle traffic collision in the area of Tippecanoe Ave and 3rd St. The collision involved a white GMC Sierra and a Gray Kia Soul. The female driver of Kia was transported by AMR to the Loma Linda Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased. The female driver of the GMC remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Members of the Sheriff’s Departments Major Accident Investigation Team responded and assumed the investigation. Preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle driven by Rachel Hibbert, a white 2018 GMC Sierra was travelling north on Tippecanoe. Hibbert failed to stop at the red traffic signal and collided with the Kia Soul that was traveling west on 3rd St in the number one lane. Hibbert was transported to the St. Bernardine Medical Center for a medical evaluation.

Hibbert was found to be driving under the influence and was booked at the West Valley Detention Center for PC 187(a). She is being held without bail and is expected to be arraigned on March 4th in San Bernardino Superior Court.
