Update on Potential COVID-19 Exposure, Results: Negative

On March 5, 2020 Sunnyvale Public Safety Officers were dispatched to a medical call for an unconscious man who was not breathing.  Despite the effort of our officers to save the patient, he didn’t survive.  While on the call, the officers learned the patient had recently been on a cruise ship where two other passengers were suspected of having COVID-19.

A short time ago we were informed by Santa Clara County Public Health the deceased patient tested negative for COVID-19 and did not have the virus.  As a precaution, the officers were temporarily placed on paid administrative leave and directed to practice the preventative actions and infection control procedures recommended by the CDC and Santa Clara County Public Health while we awaited the test results from the deceased patient.

We are asking our community to continue to remain calm and practice the preventative actions recommended by Santa Clara County Public Health and the CDC.  Links to the websites that describe the preventative actions are listed at the bottom of this message.
