DATE/TIME: March 9, 2020 / 3:37 P.M.
INCIDENT: PC 597(a) – Felony Cruelty To Animals
LOCATION: 35000 block of Beech Ave, Yucaipa
SUSPECT: Michael Herden, 37 years old, resident of Yucaipa
SUMMARY:
On March 9, 2020, at approximately 3:37 p.m., deputies responded to an unknown problem in the area of Beech Street and California Street in the City of Yucaipa. The reporting party frantically reported a male was at the location and killed her cat.
Upon arrival, deputies found Michael Herden, apparently intoxicated, at the home. He was taken into custody without incident. Investigating deputies found numerous scratches on Herden’s arms and found one deceased cat at the home.
The investigation revealed Herden – a former boyfriend of the original reporting party - sent threatening text messages to the female, who was not home, and threatened to kill her animals. When the owner returned home, she found Herden inside her home and her cat apparently strangled to death.
County Animal Control took possession of the deceased cat and a necropsy will be conducted to confirm a cause of death. Herden was arrested for felony animal cruelty and an outstanding warrant for public intoxication. He was booked into West Valley Detention Center.
