STPD response to the current global COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation.
With the current global COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation, the men and women of STPD remain steadfast in our commitment to maintain the public safety and safeguard the well-being of our community. Our department is working closely with our partner public agencies to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Officers are practicing protective measures to protect themselves and those they come in contact with. Here are some of those measures:
• Sick employees are instructed to notify their supervisors, stay
home and do not come to work.
• Members are instructed to wash hands frequently with soap and
water for at least 20 seconds and/or utilize an alcohol-based
hand sanitizer with greater than 60% alcohol content.
• Officers on a routine basis will screen individuals for indications
of illness. If an arrested person is suspected to be ill, they are not
immediately booked and are referred for medical assistance.
• Officers are to be proactive in ensuring routine cleaning and
disinfecting of the stations and patrol car.
• Officers will wear protective gloves when close contact with an
individual is needed.
It is also important to know that should you need police assistance you may be asked the following questions to assist us in screening for potentially infected individuals:
• Do you or anyone in your household have any fever, cough, or
shortness of breath?
• Have you been in contact with anyone you suspect may have the
coronavirus?
• Have you been out of the country in the last 14 days?
Answering these questions honestly will help our officers properly identify any risks and choose the proper response.
