Advisory
Coronavirus Update
Friends, The County and State have declared a state of emergency related to Coronavirus. The declaration provides them with access to assistance that might be needed as the situation evolves. It is a prudent to be prepared. It is important to be prepared but not panicked. Health experts have repeatedly stated that the majority of cases are mild. Those who are elderly and have other health issues that weaken their overall state have more to be concerned about and should take extra precautions. Each of us has people like that in our lives and we should do what we can to protect them by controlling our own surroundings. In order to contain the virus and keep it from spreading to our most vulnerable citizens, Romeo Community Schools, the Romeo District Library, and the Metro Park have all announced various closures or suspension of certain activities. You should consult with their websites to learn more about their individual efforts to fight this virus. Washington Township is announcing the following actions: 1. Your township fire and EMS personnel and the Macomb County Sheriff Deputies are still on the job and will continue to serve in these most uncertain circumstances. They follow certain protocols to protect themselves and reduce risk of contact with any virus. 2. Water and Sewer services are essential services so our field crews continue to serve. They may shift their duties for the next few weeks to avoid unnecessary entry into homes, when possible, for your own peace of mind but will otherwise proceed with business as usual to ensure you have access to a clean, quality water supply. 3. Building Inspection on-sight services may be restricted over the next few weeks. Parties seeking inspection should be sure to speak with the Building Official about those restrictions to ensure there is no confusion. 4. Office personnel, many of whom support essential roles, will continue to serve until further notice though we will at times limit meetings and reduce face to face interactions when possible. We have taken certain steps in our offices to ensure a clean and safe environment. However, we certainly encourage residents to communicate via email and phone when face to face contact is not necessary. Department contacts are listed at www.Washingtontownship.org. While you are still welcome to use our Treasury services, we prefer that you pay via mailings to our Processing Center or Township Hall, use of the drop box in front of Township Hall, or pay online through the Township website. 5. Senior center, Parks and Recreation activities, and the workout facility at Township Hall are closed until further notice. Staff will still be on hand to take your calls. Senior Transportation will still be available for essential services only (doctor appointments as opposed to social appointments). We recognize the inconvenience but wish to reduce risk to the most vulnerable members of our community. We will keep you informed. 6. Our Wednesday Township Board meeting will be postponed until further notice. 7. Please note that the state of emergency declaration by the Governor prohibits gatherings over 250 people and cautions against any large gatherings that might contribute to the spread of the virus, even those of 100 people. This may impact religious gatherings. We encourage local religious organizations, charitable organizations and others hosting large group functions to consider use of online video services or other means of accomplishing your worthy goals to reduce the amount of unnecessary face to face contact that could result in a spreading of the virus. The Center for Disease Control has excellent guidance on identifying symptoms and avoiding the virus. You can read more at CDC Guidance This is a time to be cautious, not to panic. This is not a time to assign blame or create fear. It is simply a time to pull together to protect each other, especially our most vulnerable. Calm and prudent action will help avoid spreading the virus and reduce its impact on the fine people of Washington. Let’s work together as a community to keep our families safe and healthy. Thank you, Dan O’Leary Washington Township Supervisor |
