Coronavirus Update: Latest Steps by Town of Danville

Over the weekend, both the Contra Costa County Health Services and the State of California issued further restrictions aimed at limiting the spread of the COVID-19 virus.  Chief among those restrictions is the prohibition of public gatherings.  In order to adhere to these restrictions, and to do our best to assist in “flattening the curve” the Town of Danville will be instituting the following changes:

  • Both the front counter of the Town offices and the front counter of the Danville Police Department will only be allowing one person at a time. The exterior door will be locked, and staff will let one person in at a time to conduct business.  It is strongly encouraged that any business that can be done by phone or online be done this way. If business can not be done by phone or online it should be done by appointment so that residents do not have to wait in line. To find the phone number for the department you need, go to www.danville.ca.gov.
  • The Danville Community Center (420 Front St), Oak Hill Park Community Center (3005 Stone Valley Road), Village Theatre & Art Gallery (233 Front St), and the Danville Senior Center (115 E. Prospect Ave) are closed through the end of March.
  • All current classes are cancelled.
  • Upcoming events such as the Amazing Race and Town of Danville sports leagues are suspended and will be postponed to an upcoming date.
  • Community engagement events, such as Coffee with the Cops, are currently suspended.
  • Tuesday’s Town Council meeting will be limited to 40 seats for the public. Citizens are encouraged to watch the meeting online at www.danville.ca.gov/agendas.
  • Upcoming commission, committee, and advisory board meetings are cancelled through the end of March.
  • No rental reservations are currently being taken.
  • We are working with the Danville Area Chamber of Commerce to facilitate access to retail and restaurants for carry out orders.

We understand that this is a very challenging time, and this is a rapidly evolving situation.  We encourage the community to work to take steps to protect themselves, and to limit potential spread of the virus.  Keep calm, and the practice of social distancing will be crucial in flattening the curve and limiting the spread.  As the saying goes, “When in doubt, don’t go out.”

Because this situation is still very fluid, we expect there to be further changes as we continue to battle the coronavirus. We will put that information out to the community as quickly as we can. We also recommend checking regularly to the Contra Costa Health Services site www.cchealth.org and the Centers for Disease Control site www.cdc.gov for the latest updates.
