STURGIS CITY FACILITIES TO CLOSE TO PUBLIC IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19

STURGIS – In response to continued state and nation-wide efforts to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), effective at one o’clock (1:00) p.m. March 16th all City facilities including Sturgis City Hall will be closed to the public along with the Doyle Community Center and Sturges-Young Center for the Arts.  Closures will remain in effect until April 5th.

In addition to the closures, all non-essential City Board and Commission meetings will be cancelled until April 5th along with any remaining City-organized events, classes, or leisure activities.  Information on specific cancellations or postponements will be available on the websites and Facebook pages of the City of Sturgis, Doyle Community Center, and Sturges-Young Center for the Arts, as well as the Sturgis247 Community Calendar.

City departments will remain in operation during this period of closure to the public, however, certain City services requiring contact with the public will also be suspended during this time.  Residents having business with City departments such as Community Development, Engineering, Assessing, the Clerk-Treasurer’s Office or Utility Customer Service should contact those departments via phone or email.

Residents can find contact information for City departments at sturgismi.gov/contactus.  Requests for service or questions can also be submitted via the City’s ActionLine online request system, available at egovlink.com/sturgis/action.

For those needing to make utility or other payments, these can be done remotely while City Hall is closed.  Customers can pay their utility bill online at the City’s website, sturgismi.gov.  They may also mail in their payment or place it in the Treasurer’s drop box, 24 hours a day, located in the drive between City Hall and the Fire Department.  Envelopes are provided at the drop box; please make sure you include your service address and/or account number with the payment.   If you pay with cash in the drop box, the City will mail you a receipt.

The City is continuing to ask citizens, businesses, and organizations to stay well informed about COVID-19, including symptoms and the latest recommended measures to help prevent the spread of the virus.  You can find more information online at michigan.gov/coronavirus and coronavirus.gov.

Please continue to watch the City’s Facebook page and website for more information.  You can also receive updates by signing up for Nixle alerts on the City’s homepage.
