COMMUNITY ALERT: Adapting to the COVID-19 Coronavirus
Adapting to the COVID-19 Coronavirus
The Montebello Police Department is adapting to the challenges caused by COVID-19. The Montebello Police Department has not curtailed our deployment and will continue to respond to law enforcement related activities.
The COVID-19 crisis is a fluid situation and the Montebello Police Department is adapting in real-time and working in a unified effort to maintain field staffing levels. We want to be clear that providing law enforcement services to the residents of Montebello is our priority.
We have begun the process of preparing the station for various scenarios by equipping our staff with protective gear and keeping them informed. Our staff has been fully briefed on the COVID-19 issues and will take all due precautions when dealing with the public. We will continue to respond to all calls and will assess our deployment on a day to day basis.
Based on CDC and State precaution recommendations, we have modified some procedures to limit exposure of the public and our employees by limiting unnecessary public contact. For example, for limited non-emergency crime reporting, we ask that the community use the “online” reporting procedure by going to https://montebellopd.org/online-reporting. A full description of what reports can be completed using the on-line system are available on our website.
To protect the health of the public and our personnel, and slow the rate of transmission of COVID-19, we are limiting the access to the Montebello Police lobby except in mandatory or emergent situations, for at least the remainder of the month of March. Records personnel will be available to provide assistance – instructions on how to talk to a professional staff member are posted on the lobby doors. We encourage residents to call ahead at (323) 887-1225 to determine if we can serve your needs without requiring a visit.
Lobby restrictions do not apply to:
- Individuals who are required by law to check in with law enforcement for compliance to terms of release
- Regularly scheduled child-custody exchanges can still take place in the Safe Exchange Zone – located to the front of the police station
- Situations in which a law enforcement presence is needed to immediately protect life, safety or property
- Late fees will not be assessed on fees owed for citations and storages, as a result of the lobby closure
- Release of property will be done on a case by case basis, please call (323) 887-1327
The men and women of the Montebello Police Department are dedicated to providing superior service, while preserving the health of our community and our sworn and professional staff.
