The Contra Costa County Health Department, together with five other Bay Area counties in California, has ordered all residents to shelter-in-place to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus.  A copy of this Order and more information about Contra Costa County’s response to COVID-19 can be found here:  https://www.coronavirus.cchealth.org/
 
The shelter-in-place Order is effective beginning at 12:01 a.m. on March 17, 2020 (in other words, the night of March 16^th) and will continue to be in effect until 11:59 p.m. on April 7, 2020, or until it is extended, rescinded, superseded, or amended in writing by the Contra Costa County Health Officer.  The Order allows residents to conduct “essential business.”  These essential services will remain open and can be visited under the Order:
 
+ Food: Grocery stores, food banks, convenience stores, take-out and delivery restaurants. (Please note that many Orinda restaurants are anticipated to remain open, offering take-out and/or delivery.)
+ Essential government services: Police stations, fire stations, public works emergency response, hospitals/clinics and healthcare operations, jails, courts, garbage/sanitation, transportation (including BART for essential travel), utilities (water, power and gas). 
+ Gas stations.
+ Pharmacies.
+ Banks.
+ Laundromats/laundry services.
+ Veterinarians. 
+ Hardware stores/plumbers.
 
Please note City Offices, recreation facilities, the Library and Community Center are closed but staff are accessible by email. 
 
If you are at high risk of severe illness from COVID-19, the Order encourages you to “stay in  [their] resident to the extent feasible.” 
 
If you need healthcare during the period covered by the Order, contact your health care provider (by phone or email) to see if they are providing regular services.  Do not go to the emergency room of a hospital unless you are having an actual emergency.
 
The Order requires fitness and exercise facilities to remain closed.  However, the Order makes it clear that residents are allowed to “engage in outdoor activity, provided the individuals comply with Social Distancing Requirements as defined in this Section, such as, by way of example and without limitation, walking, hiking, or running.”  Social distancing is defined as maintaining at least 6 feet from other people.
