Three arrests made from shooting incident last night on Grahamville Road in Ridgeland.
Shooting Incident Update and Arrests: Shortly after 10:30pm on March 16, 2020, Jasper County Dispatch received calls that a house on Grahamville Road was being shot at. The house was occupied by several people, including a 13 month old baby. Deputies and Sheriff Malphrus were working proactive patrols and were just around the corner from the house being shot at. We responded within seconds and began to secure the wooded area near Henry Lawton Road and Captain Bill Road in Ridgeland, SC. We secured a huge perimeter and began using our K9 teams to squeeze the area. We could hear footsteps and a phone ringing which we knew were the suspects fleeing, realizing they were trapped. We were able to see them running in the shadows and we began shifting our perimeter. After two hours of searching, two suspects were located hiding in the woods. They were detained. We continued searching and a third suspect was located hiding in the woods. An article search using our K9 team allowed us to locate a gun we believe was used for the shooting and then dumped close to where the suspects were located. All three were arrested and charged. Two of suspects are male juveniles, one charged with a probation violation and the other juvenile charged with a weapons violation. Due to each being a juvenile, their names cannot be released. They were transported to the Dept. Of Juvenile Justice in Columbia where they will await a court hearing. The third suspect, 21 year old adult, Shania Douglas of Ridgeland was charged with a drug offense and contributing to the delinquency of two minors. More weapons charges on each are pending lab analysis of the weapon and residue found on each suspect. We believe these shootings and many murders have been terrorizing our community for many years before we took office. Through hard work, determination, many hours of investigative surveillance and a team approach we were able to apprehend those who attempted to kill Jasper County residents. We will continue to work hard and pursue the criminal element. Sheriff Malphrus called in "Everyone with a Jasper County Badge" to assist in this scene. SLED and Ridgeland Police assisted and we are grateful for the partnerships. Jasper County Dispatch was awesome and measured and we are thankful fot them. "I love my Jasper County and the people in it. As your Sheriff, we will not stop working hard to ensure the safety of you and your families. We will not tolerate violence against our citizens.
