After quite a bit of public interest, the Hayward Police
Department has joined Neighbors by Ring.

What does this mean?
Your Ring Neighborhood just got a whole lot stronger.

Here’s how it works: If there’s a crime that happens in your neighborhood, Hayward PD can send out a request to your neighbors to see if their home security cameras might have caught a glimpse of a suspect or other important information. This is just a request – we have no access to your videos without your permission. We won’t monitor the Neighbors app 24/7, but we can view, post, and respond to reports of crime in your neighborhood (just like we do on social media).

By working together, we can all make Hayward a safer community.

The Neighbors app is available for free on iOS, Android and FireOS devices. You can text ‘JOINTODAY’ TO 555888 for smartphones to receive a link to download the Neighbors app.

• Once downloaded, community members can join their digital neighborhood and use the app to: view neighborhood activity; share crime and safety-related videos, photos and text-based posts; and receive regional safety alerts from their neighbors, local law enforcement and selected crime and safety news sources - all in real time.
• Posts made by users other than law enforcement do not display the poster’s identity.
• Joining the Neighbors app does not grant law enforcement access to cameras or user data.
• Law enforcement can only view content community members have publicly posted to the Neighbors app or that they have decided to share with law enforcement in response to a specific request.
• Community members do not need to own a Ring device or any other home security system in order to download and use the Neighbors app. Anyone with a compatible smartphone or tablet can download the Neighbors app.
