LOCAL EMERGENCY DECLARED
The Contra Costa County Health Department reports that as of today, 39 people have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. This is an increase of 5 people, or 14.7%, since yesterday. Again, this number is expected to increase due to both increased testing and because there are people in our communities who already have the virus. This is why we need to practice social distancing and follow the directives of the Health Department.
Today, consistent with actions taken by the Federal government, the State of California and Contra Costa County, the Town Manager proclaimed a local emergency in the Town of Moraga. This declaration increases the Town’s access to resources, facilitates responses and sets us up to potentially receive a reimbursement of costs incurred in the COVID-19 situation. The proclamation will be reviewed by the Town Council at a special meeting on Monday March 23rd, 5:00 p.m. A copy of the Proclamation is attached for your information.
Please do your part in our communities to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus. As we look around our Town, it seems like business as usual. However, it is anything but business as usual as we all work to prepare as this virus runs its course. While we are past the point of stopping the virus, through working together, using social distancing and following the direction of the Health Officer, we can slow the progress of the virus and avoid the issues that are occurring in European countries.
