Coronavirus/COVID-19 Update: City of Monterey Park’s Continued Efforts to Provide Service to Community while Facility Closures are in Place

Monterey Park, Calif. March 17, 2020 The City of Monterey Park continues to closely monitor developments with the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. On March 11, 2020, the City declared an emergency. The City continues to urge the public to be vigilant while avoiding panic.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has been provided the following information: Please do not call 911 to request testing for COVID-19 and please do not go to an emergency room unless you are seriously ill and require emergency care. If you have respiratory illness and want to know if you should be tested for COVID-19, it is best to call your health care provider or, if you don’t have a provider, call 2-1-1 for help finding a clinician near you. The City is in communication with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to ensure that public officials are taking the appropriate action to protect the public against the spread of the coronavirus.

Closure Updates
Precautionary measures have gone into effect following recent state and county mandates prohibiting all indoor gatherings of more than 50 people, limit gatherings of high risk populations (such as seniors) to no more than 10 people and practice social distancing. Permanent food facilities must limit their services to only preparing and offering food to customers via delivery service, via pick up for take-out dining only, or via drive thru. The following businesses are closed: bars and nightclubs that do not serve food, gyms and fitness centers, movie theaters, live performance theaters, bowling alleys, and arcades. The City will continue to assess the situation and may make additional changes as needed.

Help Desk
A City of Monterey Park Help Desk has been created to provide continued service during the closure and can be reached during Monterey Park City Hall hours of operation, Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and Fridays 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at 626-307-1377 or at [email protected]. Please continue to check the City’s website for updates at www.montereypark.ca.gov.

City Hall
- Closed to the public until further notice, but will remain open to phone and email communication during regular hours of operation and online services will continue to be provided.
- Police Department will remain open; however, certain services such as Live Scan have been suspended. We may accept and document certain non-emergency crime reports over the telephone rather than in person.

Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library
- Closed to the public until further notice, but will remain open Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m. to phone and email communication, and online services will continue to be provided.
- Book drop is closed until further notice.

Senior Services
Langley Senior Center will be closed to non-essential programs until further notice.
- Senior Lunch Program to continue with the following modification: Boxed lunches will be provided for pick up, please contact Langley Center for more information at 626-307-1395.
- Dial-a-Ride program to continue with the following modification: Rides will only be provided for essential trips, including medical appointments and grocery store or pharmacy trips

Recreation and Community Services
- Facility reservations, programs and classes are canceled until further notice, for more information please call 626-307-1388.
- Public restrooms at all parks will be closed until further notice. Restrooms will be open and available at Garvey Ranch Park and Barnes Park during regular park hours.

Spirit Bus - Modified Hours of Operation
- Route 1-4 will run Monday-Friday, 9:10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. (Saturday schedule). Saturday/Sunday schedule remains the same.
- Route 5 will run Monday-Friday, 9:10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Saturday/Sunday schedules remain the same (no service).
- LINK shuttle that runs between Corporate Center and CSULA Metrolink Station will be canceled until further notice.

All regular meetings are canceled. Please monitor the City’s website for any special meetings that may be called. Any such meetings will be conducted in accordance with Section No. 11 of the Governor’s Executive Order No. N-25-20 issued on March 12, 2020.

While the City of Monterey Park apologizes for any inconvenience that these actions may cause, the safety of the public is our highest priority. The City also encourages the public to take proactive steps to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. As with other respiratory illnesses, there are steps that everyone can take daily to reduce the risk of getting sick or infecting others. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health recommends:
- Stay home if you are sick; do not wait until you are VERY sick. Remain home until you have spoken with your doctor or health provider.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
- If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. If you do not have a tissue, use your sleeve (not your hands). Wash your hands or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer immediately after.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a cleaning spray or wipes that are identified for use against Influenza A&B and coronaviruses.
- Practice and encourage “social distancing” by maintaining six feet of separation from other people.
- All people over the age of 65 and people with chronic conditions should self isolate.
