Advisory

City of Seymour Response to COVID-19 Outbreak

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

3-18-20

SEYMOUR, WIS - On March 12, 2020, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers issued Executive Order #72, declaring a public health emergency in response to the COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus global pandemic. In response to this emergency declaration and the conditions resulting in its issuance, the City of Seymour will implement various temporary procedures designed to protect employees and citizens and to ensure the continuity of city operations. The following is an overview of some of the changes being implemented at this time across city government.

Police Department: Until further notice, the following activities are being suspended: public education or similar community outreach activities, non-arrest related fingerprinting services, ride-alongs, and prescription drug drop off. The police department office will allow very limited walk-in access to the public. It is highly recommended to call our office at (920) 833-2366 to file a complaint or speak with an officer for non-emergency calls or questions. Please follow us on our police department Facebook page (Seymour Police Department, Wisconsin) and Twitter (@SPD_PIO) for any updates. These measures are being implemented to ensure that our staffing levels can be maintained for emergency operations throughout the course of this crises.

Department of Public Works: Snow & ice removal will remain unchanged and completed as necessary. Garbage and recycling services will remain unchanged at this point. If our contracted services need to make changes, we will post the updates on the City of Seymour website and Facebook page. Brush pickup and street sweeping will begin as usual as weather allows beginning in April. Clean fill and electronics recycling will remain unchanged. City parks will begin to open as usual in April as weather allows. Manual meter readings (a few of these remain) will be done if access is available. If not, estimates will be used for billing purposes or direct contacts may be used until manual reads can continue. Current practices of water/wastewater treatment collection and delivery will remain unchanged as agencies such as the WDNR, WPSC, WWOA, and WRWA have weighed in and deemed the current practices as safe and sufficient. Meter replacements and cross connection inspections will be placed on hold unless absolutely necessary as we want to limit our entries into our customers’ homes and businesses. Please don’t hesitate to contact Public Works in the event of broken water lines, backed up sewers, or flooded basements by calling 920-833-2209.

City Clerk’s Office: Office hours will remain Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Early voting is available by absentee ballot. Please bring your ID. Pens and counters are sanitized on a regular basis, but you may bring your own black ballpoint pen. No gel pens or markers are allowed. To pay your water and sewer bills electronically, please sign up to have your bill emailed to you. You can also pay online through our PSN service found on the City of Seymour website. There are no fees associated with these services. For any questions please call the City Clerk’s Office at (920) 833-2209.

Muehl Public Library: The library closed indefinitely on Wednesday, March 18th. If any changes are made, we will make notification to the public by posting a message on the outside of the building on the marquee, library Facebook page, library website www.muehlpubliclibrary.org, or by calling (920) 833-2725.

We are frequently receiving updates and recommendations from Outagamie County Emergency Management and Outagamie County Public Health. Please find the latest updates on COVID-19 at www.outagamie.org/publichealth. It is vital for our community to work together to prevent to spread of the virus by adhering to emergency orders from federal, state and local officials. We also encourage citizens to check on their elderly neighbors, while maintaining appropriate social distancing, to ensure they have enough food and are not in need of medical care.
