Dear National City Community,

In response to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s directive to stay at home, the City of National City is suspending operations except for critical public safety services, to include police, fire, public works, and field inspections functions that support essential infrastructure and public safety.

All City buildings and recreation centers are closed to the public. The City of National City is coordinating with the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency/Public Health Services department and other agencies to implement all measures required to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The World Health Organization has declared the outbreak a global pandemic.

Following are additional actions taken and underway in the City of National City to address this public health emergency:

We have closed ALL city facilities to the public as of March 18, 2020 and all activities are cancelled for the foreseeable future. This includes, City Hall, the Police and Fire Departments, Library, Recreation & Senior Centers, and the MLK Jr. Community Center.

The Senior Nutrition Center (1415 D Ave)The Senior Nutrition Center will continue to serve grab‐and‐go meals and their home delivered meal program.

The Fire Department has implemented first responders’ protocols for responding to calls for service related to COVID-19 by providing personal protective equipment (PPE), and implementing exposure reporting, monitoring/quarantine, and decontamination practices. Police patrol units have been provided PPE.

The City has coordinated with the County of San Diego to install 7 handwashing stations throughout the City.

The City Council meeting currently scheduled for April 7 will still take place; however, the City is considering options for holding that meeting remotely to protect the health and safety of the City Council, staff and the public.

All Board and Commission meetings in March are cancelled.

As an effort to help during these difficult times, the City of National City has partnered with Feeding San Diego to provide FREE grab & go lunches to all National City kids.
