Borough of Westwood - Coronavirus Update 03/20/2020
March 20, 2020
Dear Westwood Residents;
As the first week of NJ’s response to the CoVid-19 pandemic event comes to an end, here is an update and a few reminders:
· The Borough Hall remains closed to the public. Administrative staff has been reduced and essential functions have been prioritized. Please call 201-664-7100 to speak with a Borough employee. Dial 201-664-7000 for non-emergency Police matters. Dial 911 if you are having an actual emergency.
· Drop boxes for paper communications with various Borough Departments are in the Entry Vestibule at the rear of the building.
· Essential Services workers: Police and DPW - are working regular patrol shifts and hours.
· Parks are still open for passive recreation for groups of 10 or less; and with users observing social distancing protocols. Park equipment and infrastructure that is shared by large groups (including Basketball Courts) have been taken out of service.
· The Borough is operating in accordance with Governor Murphy’s Executive Orders #103, 104, 105 and 106. ( See www.westwoodnj.gov/coronavirus for full text of each )
· We are working to conduct our postponed Mayor and Council meeting next week with public access via call in technology. Check our website – www.westwoodnj.gov for more information.
· Please continue to practice CDC protocols regarding, frequent hand washing, surface cleansing, social distancing and avoidance of large groups. These methods are proven to significantly mitigate the spread of viral infections like CoVid-19
This week I’ve been at my desk at Borough Hall, every day – all day, meeting with our professional and dedicated OEM Task Force members to align Westwood’s CoVid-19 mitigation efforts with the Governor’s Executive Orders.
This week Westwood residents volunteered to escort our seniors on grocery shopping trips. They’ve gone above and beyond to keep Meals on Wheels coming to our most vulnerable people.
This week residents and suffering business owners have made sure the Borough’s Food pantry is fully stocked.
So when I think about what Westwood will look like on the other side of this event - I have no fear.
Our residents, business owners, and our excellent employees are going to preserve our town.
In a contest between our people’s spirit - and a virus - I’m betting on Westwood.
Always Westwood.
Mayor Ray Arroyo
