Message from the Ketchikan Emergency Manager (3/20/20)

This is Ketchikan Emergency Manager Abner Hoage,
Tonight to prevent the spread of Coronavirus Governor Dunleavy issued two new mandates affecting Ketchikan.
The first is that public and private schools are closed to students through May 1, 2020. Students will receive instruction through distance delivery methods. All after school activities will be suspended during this time.
The second is to limit Personal Care Services and Gatherings, this mandate requires that all close contacts with people outside of a family unit be more than six feet apart from each other to prevent the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19 and is effective beginning at 8:00 am tomorrow Saturday March 21st.

  1. All service-related business, congregations, or gatherings where individuals are within 6 feet of each other must stop all operations. This includes:
    1. Hair salons
    2. Day spas and esthetics locations
    3. Nail salons
    4. Barber shops
    5. Tattoo shops
    6. Body piercing locations
    7. Massage therapy locations
    8. Tanning facilities
  2. Additionally, no gatherings of more than 10 people may take place, and if a gathering does take place people must be 6 feet apart from each other.
This mandate does not include urgent, and emergent health care needs, nor health care facilities.
These measures are to protect the residents of Ketchikan and we need everyone to do their part.
