An important message from Mayor Joseph Altomonte regarding COVID-19.

A Message from Mayor Joseph Altomonte:

This is a challenging time for the borough and our country. The Mayor and Council’s top priority is your safety. We’ve been working closely with the Office of Emergency Management, the Chief of Police and our state and local officials to stay updated and make sure that we are communicating factual and helpful information.

Per the Governor’s new ‘Stay at Home Order’ yesterday, please stay home as much as possible. If you must go out, for your health and the health of others, please follow social distancing guidelines.

Our borough office remains closed to the public. Essential services will continue to function and non-essential staff will work remotely as we have adopted a modified staffing plan. Information and advisories will continue to be provided through  MatawanBorough.com,  Facebook and Nixle. To join Nixle, please text 07747 to 888-777.

Parks remain open at this time but play areas and courts are closed with no group activities allowed until further notice.  Again, please follow social distancing guidelines.

All restaurants and bars can continue to provide take-out and delivery in lieu of in-restaurant dining.

We thank our police department, public works, fire department and all first responders for their dedication as they continue to provide essential services during this time. The Council, Chief Falco, the Administration and I thank the departments for their continued commitment to the borough.

To stay informed of all Executive Orders and mandated closures by the Governor, as well as other government services in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, please visit https://covid19.nj.gov/ or NJ211.org for the most up to date information. We urge everyone to support the governmental orders whether it be national, state, freeholder or local.

We know this is a stressful time; be kind and check in on one another. The people of Matawan have always come together during times of crisis and we will get through this together.

Thank you for your cooperation. We need everyone to do their part to minimize the impact, keep flattening the curve and keep our community safe and healthy.

-Mayor Joseph Altomonte
