WEEKLY EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER (EOC) UPDATE
Starting today, March 23, the City will issue an Emergency Operation Center (EOC) Weekly Update for the community every Monday. This will offer the community updated emergency information and transparency. The EOC Weekly Update will be included in the daily messaging, and posted on social media, Nextdoor and on the website at www.MalibuCity.org/Coronavirus.

BEWARE OF CORONAVIRUS RELATED SCAMS
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is actively and aggressively monitoring the market for fraudulent coronavirus (COVID-19) diagnostic, prevention and treatment schemes and warns the public to beware of coronavirus scams. The FDA is starting to see unauthorized fraudulent home testing kits for COVID-19. The FDA has not authorized any home testing kit. The FDA sees the public health value in expanding the availability of COVID-19 testing through safe and accurate tests that may include home collection, and is actively working with test developers in this space. Fraudulent health claims, tests, and products can pose serious health risks. They may keep some patients from seeking care or delay
necessary medical treatment. The FDA reminds consumers to follow the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidelines
(https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html) and speak to your medical provider if you have symptoms of COVID-19. Your
medical provider will advise you about whether you should get tested and the process for being tested with an appropriate test.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) warns the public to beware of illegal robocalls that pitch Coronavirus treatments and at-home remedies. The FTC advised the public to hang up on robocalls, fact check articles and advertisements, buy from known online sellers, don't respond to texts and emails about receiving checks from the government. Don't click on links from sources you don't know, as computer viruses and malware have begun to spread that use coronavirus scare tactics to ensnare consumers. Ingore online offers for vaccinations. CITY DONATES N95 MASKS TO LOCAL HOSPITALS
The City has donated several thousand N95 masks to local hospitals to help protect healthcare workers as they respond to the coronavirus crisis. There is a nationwide shortage of the masks, and the risk of infection to healthcare workers is a major challenge to our healthcare systems responding to the crisis.

COUNTY HEALTH OFFICER ISSUES NEW, ENHANCED ORDER
The LA County Health Officer issued a new, enhanced order to be consistent with the Governor’s “Stay at Home” Order. The new order instructs all persons to remain in their homes or places of residence, prohibits all gatherings and events, indoor or outdoor, public or private, and orders that all non-essential businesses must close. The order is in effect to April 19, 2020. The order does not prohibit individuals or families from engaging in outdoor activities, such as walking, hiking, biking, shopping at essential businesses or picking up meals, provided social distancing is observed.

NPS CLOSES SOLSTICE CANYON; MRCA CLOSES ALL PARKS & FACILITIES; COUNTY CLOSES ALL MALIBU BEACH PARKING LOTS
On Sunday, the National Park Service (NPS) began the closure of Solstice Canyon and is working with the LA County Sheriff’s Dept to limit roadside parking.

The Mountains Recreations & Conservation Authority (MRCQA) announced on Sunday that, effective immediately, all MRCA-operated parks, trails, and building facilities, including public restrooms, are closed until further notice to protect the health and safety of the public. This includes all parks that are owned by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy in the Malibu area. The Sheriff’s Dept announced Monday that, in accordance with Governor Newsom’s mandate, and to bolster the protective measures set forth by the State and County, effective immediately, all beach parking lots will be closed in the City of Malibu until further notice. The intent is to support the residents of Malibu and discourage non-residents from visiting its beaches during the COVID-19 crisis. This sanction will remain in place until this crisis abates.

CITY LAUNCHES VIRTUAL RECREATION RESOURCES

CITY REMINDS RESIDENTS HOW TO PROTECT WASTE SYSTEMS
Residents whose homes use Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (OWTS), also known as septic systems, as well as those connected to the City’s Civic Center Wastewater Treatment Facility (CCWTF), should avoid flushing disposable wipes and certain other harmful items down the toilet. Many types of personal wipes and solid hygiene products do not fall apart in buildings’ drainpipes, and can clog pipes and pumps in the septic or CCWTF system. Under “Safer at Home” orders, Malibu residents are spending more time in their homes and using more potentially harmful products, all of which increases the need for residents to keep a closer eye on their waste systems. FILM OFFICE NOT PROCESSING FILM PERMIT APPLICATIONS
Following the lead of FilmLA, the Malibu Film Office will not be considering or processing film permit applications until further notice.

GAS COMPANY CONDUCTING EMERGENCY SERVICES ONLY
SoCalGas is making some temporary changes to its customer service operations consistent with guidance from public health officials. The Gas Co will continue to make essential and emergency service appointments, including reports of suspected natural gas leaks, carbon monoxide checks, gas meter turn-ons, natural gas outage and pilot re-lights, but is temporarily suspending appliance check-ups and non-essential service calls, such as inoperative pool heaters, barbecues, and fire pits. SoCalGas is also committed to assisting customers affected by COVID-19. Last week, it suspended service disconnections until further notice, meaning no customer will have their natural gas turned off due to non-payment. CORONAVIRUS PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE
The City of Malibu continues to monitor the status of the Coronavirus and implement measures to protect public health and safety and is doing everything possible to support vulnerable community members.  The City continues to follow the recommendations of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH), California Office of Emergency Services (CALOES) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and is taking steps to reduce the likelihood of community spread. 

All Residents should be complying with the State’s “Stay at Home” order, and leaving their homes only to conduct essential business, such as grocery shopping, medical appointments. Residents should also connect with neighbors, particularly seniors or those with underlying health conditions, to see if they need help in any way.
