WINHALL POLICE & RESCUE Message from Chief Whitesell

March 25, 2020

Second homeowners and residents of Winhall,

In these very difficult times, I wanted to reach out to each and every one of you as the Town of Winhall Emergency Management Director and Chief of Police and Rescue.

We understand that many of our second homeowners permanently reside in the greater NYC area, which is now the epicenter of this very dangerous and deadly virus.

If you have recently been in the Greater NYC area, and are now residing in the Town of Winhall, we ask you to please self-quarantine for a period of 14 days, as per recommendations from the federal government.

We welcome you to Winhall and pledge to you that our community and State is prepared to respond to the COVID 19 virus. We must all do our part to prevent the virus from spreading throughout our community. Our first responders are equipped with PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and are trained in how to respond such calls for service. Our Transfer Station and Highway Departments remain operational; however, all municipal buildings have been closed to the public. We have a team of employees and volunteers that have identified our vulnerable population and checks on them on a regular basis. We need to be proactive in our approach to keep our community safe and need your cooperation!

On March 24, 2020, Governor Phil Scott issued a “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order and directed the closure of in-person operations for all non-essential businesses. These restrictive measures are in place to minimize all unnecessary activities outside the home to slow the spread of this virus and protect the public. These actions were implemented in consultation with the Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Health and his evaluation of the latest data.

The Governor’s order directs you to stay at home, leaving only for essential reasons, critical to health and safety. If leaving the home, you should adhere to social distancing policies, including remaining six feet from others (except for those with whom they share a home) and thoroughly and regularly washing hands. Please limit the number of people that shop to one person per household and please shop responsibly and purchase only what you need.

The Stay Home, Stay Safe order will be in effect until April 15, 2020, though may be extended or shortened as needed. Should you need anything, please feel free to contact us at (802) 297-1013 or in an emergency call 911.

Please stay safe,

Jeffery Whitesell
