Coronavirus/COVID-19 Update: The City of Monterey Park Takes Additional Action to Prohibit Group Gatherings at Local Parks and Provides Resource Links for Residents and Businesses

Monterey Park, Calif. March 25, 2020 The City of Monterey Park will continue to follow the lead of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in implementing protocols to protect the health and safety of everyone in public spaces and in providing accurate and timely updates to the community.

The “Safer at Home” Order limits the gathering of people and requires the closure of non-essential businesses and uses such as: shopping malls, shopping centers, children’s playgrounds, and non-essential retail businesses. The City of Monterey Park’s residents and businesses are subject to the State and County Orders. The Order prohibits all indoor and outdoor public and private gatherings and events among persons not in the same household in Los Angeles County.

The City has closed the following areas at all park sites to comply with the order. Park areas closed until further notice include:

- Picnic shelters located at Barnes Park, Highlands Park, George Elder Park, and Garvey Ranch Park.
- All tennis and basketball courts at all park sites.

Again, the intent of this action is to avoid the spread of COVID-19 by having people shelter in place (another way of saying stay home) at their residence, while enabling only essential services to continue. Failure to comply with the provisions of this action constitutes a threat to public health.

Resource links have been added to the City’s website for reference and will be updated as additional information becomes available. Please continue to check the City’s website for updates at www.montereypark.ca.gov/coronavirus and below are some links already on the webpage:
