Narrative: | |||||
On March 25th, 2020, detectives from the Moorpark Investigations Bureau and the Thousand Oaks Special Enforcement Unit arrested Caleb Parish in the City of Bakersfield for Identity Theft charges. Moorpark detectives initially began their investigation when they learned that the victim, who resides in the City of Moorpark, reported to deputies that an unknown suspect opened several credit cards using his personal identifying information and charged over $20,000.00 between the fraudulent accounts. Detectives learned the accounts were originally opened and used to purchase several items of furniture at a high-end furniture store in the City of Bakersfield. Through a variety of investigative techniques, detectives identified Caleb Parish of Bakersfield, as the suspect who opened and used the fraudulent accounts. On March 25th, detectives from the Moorpark Investigations Bureau, with the assistance of detectives from the Thousand Oaks Special Enforcement Unit followed Caleb Parish to a storage unit in the City of Bakersfield, where Parish loaded several pieces of the stolen furniture into his vehicle. When Parish returned to his apartment with the stolen furniture, detectives arrested him and then immediately served a search warrant at his apartment, as well as his storage unit. Detectives recovered most of the fraudulently purchased furniture, and dismantled what can be described as an “Identity Theft Laboratory.” The laboratory included several stolen and washed personal and business checks, counterfeit U.S. currency, as well as fraudulent ID cards and credit cards that contained the personal identifying information of numerous other individuals. Caleb Parish was transported back to Ventura County, where he was booked at the Ventura County Main Jail on Identity Theft charges. Parish’s bail was set at $200,000. |
