COVID-19 UPDATE & NOTICE FROM PUBLIC WORKS

Dear Residents:

As I reported last week and as you all know, President Trump and Governor Murphy have declared a Medical State of Emergency due to the (Novel Corona Virus) COVID-19 Pandemic.

Since that declaration, we have closed all township buildings to the public, until further notice. Please visit our website at: www.berkeleytownship.org for up to date information and links to available services online.

Our parks will continue to remain open however; the rest rooms, athletic fields, playgrounds, courts and skate park are closed and will remain closed until further notice.

Both the Central Regional and Berkeley Township School Districts are closed and will continue to be closed until further notice.

For the safety of our Police Officers and to limit contact with the general public on NON-EMERGENCY calls, we are requesting residents to report non-emergency incidents to our Police Department on our online link.  This will generate a real police report which will be handled and followed up on a later date. You can click here:  https://berkeley.policetocitizen.com/Home to file the report.

As always, IF YOU HAVE A POLICE, MEDICAL OR FIRE EMERGENCY, DIAL 9-1-1.

As of this writing, we have 32 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Berkeley Township. Due to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) we do not have any other information. In comparison, the entire County has a total of 484 cases. We do expect the number to rise as additional testing is now becoming available.

Ocean County will be opening a COVID-19 testing site on Monday, March 30th on the Campus of Ocean County College.

YOU CANNOT JUST SHOW UP TO BE TESTED.
Testing is by appointment only.
Appointments can only be made online. In order to make an appointment, YOU MUST have a script for the COVID-19 test by your medical provider. Click here to make an appointment: https://ochd.simplybook.me/v2/

The State of New Jersey has created a web site for one-stop information relating to COVID-19. Visit: https://covid19.nj.gov/ or call the New Jersey hotline available around the clock for questions at 1-800-222-1222.

PLEASE STAY AT HOME!

If you do not need to go out for work, food, groceries or medical appointments PLEASE STAY AT HOME.

What we do collectively over the next three to four weeks will have a significant impact as we all do our part to “flatten the curve”.

The best way to prevent illness and avoid being exposed is to STAY HOME.

As a reminder, the CDC & OCHD recommends preventive actions to help halt the spread of respiratory diseases, including:

  • SOCIAL DISTANCING - maintain a six foot distance from people.
  • Washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing;
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol; and
  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth;
  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick;
  • Staying home when you are sick and avoiding contact with persons in poor health;
  • Covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then disposing of the tissue;
  • Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe;

For more information on COVID-19, visit: https://covid19.nj.gov/ or call the New Jersey hotline available around the clock for questions at 1-800-222-1222. OCHD has also set up a hotline number for residents’ questions regarding the coronavirus. The number is 732-341-9700 ext. 7411.
