Mercer County issued a letter today, March 27, outlining the County policy on the release of COVID-19 information.  The letter states Mercer County "has been advised by the Office of Local Public Health to release no identifiers other than the total number of cases in the County, which is the information posted each day based on data provided by local health officials and cross-referenced with the New Jersey Department of Health."  The letter continues, that, "An unfortunate reality is that, as test availability increases so will the number of positive cases, to a point that a breakdown by municipality will no longer be relevant.  While it appears that all our municipalities are meeting compliance standards under the DA and HIPAA, we believe there is little benefit to the public, through disclosure of gender, age, municipality, occupation or other individually identifying information."

You should know that the statewide process followed whenever the East Windsor Health Department receives notification of a confirmed positive COVID-19 individual is as follows:  Township health officials initiate an investigation by personally contacting that individual to identify recent close contacts with the person.  These "close contacts" are then personally notified and informed to take measures to reduce risk, specifically to self-quarantine for 14 days following exposure and to self-monitor for symptoms.
