The Town of Hillsville is monitoring the COVID-19 outbreak closely and heading all instruction from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and Governor Northam.

The annual Shred-A-Thon scheduled for April 11 has been rescheduled to August 29 to adhere to the gathering guidelines set forth by Governor Northam.

“This is one of our favorite events we provide to our local citizens and businesses in partnership with Carter Bank & Trust, Tra Col, Hillsville Police Department, and Tri County Computers,” said Mayor Crowder. “We had really hoped for conditions to change, but at least we were able to reschedule.”

“Our Second Saturdays Concert Series kickoff on May 9 featuring the Rick Strickland Band will be the next event we have to make a decision on,” added Mayor Crowder. “We are hopeful this can be our celebration of the end of the pandemic. However, preparations have been made in case we have to reschedule the band.”

Finally, the annual Memorial Day Flea Market slated to begin the weekend of May 22 also has the potential to be affected due to the Governor’s executive order.

“The Governor’s ban has been extended. We are hopeful that it will be lifted, but if not, we will abide by the guidelines.”

Due to the fluid nature of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Town of Hillsville will be continually reevaluating the conditions as we approach the scheduled May events. No decisions have been made regarding these events at this time and are not expected to be announced until the end of April.
