MESSAGE FROM MAYOR TAMBURRO:
“With 31 new cases over the last two days, the fight comes down to us.  Monroe residents.  Each one of us.”, said Mayor Tamburro. “As the virus surges in New York and North Jersey, we each have a role to play to save lives.

Again, our role is to stay home to social distance, wash your hands and slow this virus.  We must give our hospitals and medical professionals the time needed to increase ICU beds, ventilators and equipment.  If we stay home, we save more lives.

I know we are all scared.  Its normal to feel that way now.  But I know we can do this. Right now, nothing is more important than staying home and slowing this spread.”

MESSAGES FROM GOVERNOR MURPHY:
  • NJ Income Tax Filing Deadlines Extended: The tax deadline is extended for both individuals and businesses to July 15th. This is an automatic extension.
  • Waiving Requirements to Bring Additional Medical Personnel Online: Today, the Governor authorized the temporary reactivation of licenses of recently retired health care professionals and granted temporary licenses to foreign doctors. The Executive Order also waives scope-of-practice requirements for advanced-practice nurses and physician assistants. This will help us quickly bring more medical personnel into our efforts.
  • 850 Additional Ventilators in NJ: 350 of these units came from the federal stockpile.  Additionally, the state procured nearly 10 million pieces of Personal Protective Equipment that are headed to the front lines. We still need 1,650 more ventilator units.
  • The Surge is Beginning: Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said today, “It looks like the surge is beginning to occur in the northern part of the state. We’re beginning to feel the real stress and strain on the critical care complement.” The surge was expected to hit NJ around mid-April, but seven hospitals in north Jersey were diverting patients because of overcrowding in their emergency departments.
  • Best Offense and Best Defense: social distancing. “The No. 1 thing we can do is stay home,” the governor said.
  • Help for Small Businesses: The NJEDA will launch the application for its Small Business Emergency Assistance Grant Program on Friday, April 3, 2020 at 9:00 am. A link to the grant program application will be posted on the State’s COVID-19 Business Information Hub.
  • No Water Shutoffs: All public and private water utilities in New Jersey have agreed to suspend shut-offs for nonpayment during the COVID-19 pandemic.
SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS WILL BE PAID ON TIME :  Andrew Saul, Commissioner of Social Security, reminds the public that Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefit payments will continue to be paid on time during the COVID-19 pandemic.  The agency also reminds everyone to be aware of scammers who try to take advantage of the pandemic to trick people into providing personal information or payment via retail gift cards, wire transfers, internet currency, or by mailing cash, to maintain Social Security benefit payments or receive economic impact payments from the Department of the Treasury.
“Social Security will pay monthly benefits on time and these payments will not be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Commissioner Saul said.  “I want our beneficiaries to be aware that scammers may try to trick you into thinking the pandemic is stopping or somehow changing your Social Security payments, but that is not true.  Don’t be fooled.”

DON’T TRASH OUR COMMUNITY: Many of our residents are observing social distancing while doing their grocery shopping; however, please DO NOT dump your protective gear or trash in our parking lots.  Be considerate of the grocery workers who are providing essential services and do not leave gloves or masks behind in carts or in the parking lot. We must respect those that continue to serve our community during this crisis.
