Advisory

Town of Danville April 2 Update

Town COVID-19 Update:  4.2.20

Danville Park Restrooms/Drinking Fountains Closed

Due to concerns about potential transmission of the coronavirus, the Town of Danville has opted to close restrooms and turn off drinking fountains at Town parks. The parks remain available for use for hiking, running, biking and family outings, but residents are reminded to avoid gatherings outside the family group and maintain good social distancing.

The closures will remain in effect at least until May 3, 2020 at which time they will be reassessed.

Status of the Danville Farmers Market

We have received questions from residents as to when the Saturday morning Danville Farmers Market will return to the Railroad Avenue Parking Lot.  The Town of Danville and the Pacific Coast Farmers Market Association are currently discussing ways to reopen the market and maintain public safety. Once those measures have been decided and implemented a date to reopen the market will be announced.

Beware of Ongoing Scams

Police throughout the Tri-Valley have been getting calls from residents about various scams going on.  Many of these scams target seniors.   Some of these include:

        1.         Contacting victims and offering a ‘special coronavirus test.’  Some charge
a fee, while others seek personal information such as social security
                    number or medicare ID.
        2.         In a similar vein, scammers are attempting to ‘sell’ reservations for a
                    coronavirus vaccine.
        3.         Victims are reporting getting emails or texts from services such as Netflix
or Amazon stating that they have made a purchase and should click on a
                    link to cancel the order.

These are only a few that have been reported.  The main takeaways are that no agency will be requiring social security numbers or Medicaid numbers to provide service.  Additionally, no legitimate service would be soliciting for reservations for the vaccine.  If it seems off or sketchy, do not follow through. Contact the police and ask questions.

Town of Danville Online Resources

While we encourage residents to check the county health department’s website daily for updates on the virus, the Town of Danville’s website www.danville.ca.gov/coronavirus also has a wide array of resources aimed at helping the community get through the shelter in place order.

In addition to copies of these daily reports and messages from the Town Council or Town Manager, we provide information on those facilities in Town affected by the shelter order.  There are also resources for our seniors, suggestions on fun activities for our families, information on restaurants and businesses, and ways in which the community can help.

Go on a Safari Hunt

Recognizing that the limitations on outdoor play can make things a bit dull for our younger residents, our Recreation, Arts, and Community Services staff has come up with a new way for neighborhoods to help make the afternoon/evening walk a bit more interesting.

Many neighborhoods across the country are doing ‘Bear Hunts,’ where residents put a teddy bear in their front window for kids to look for as they go for a walk. Our staff thought it would be fun to take that one step further and came up with the ‘Safari Hunt.’  It is very similar to the bear hunts, but in this case, residents are encouraged to put all manner of stuffed animals in the window.  What sort of exotic beasts can you place in your window to entertain your neighborhood children?  Unicorns?  Pegasi? Perhaps even a T-Rex?  Take photos on your safaris and post them to Instagram, tagging the Recreation page @danvilleparksca or using the hashtag #safarihunt
