Informational Update from Seymour Police Chief Isaac Schultz

An update from Chief Schultz regarding the statewide public heath emergency:

When I arrive home after work, my daughter always wants to look at pictures on my cell phone. So like most fathers, I give in. As I show my daughter pictures from a month ago, I realize how much things have changed in such a short time. It’s somewhat depressing to think about but I value the extra time at home with my family. I hope everyone can find some good in all of this.

Since my last letter, I made the decision to close our office and lobby to the public for the safety of my employees. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please call our office at (920) 833-2366 if you need to speak with an officer or you can email me directly at [email protected]. Our Municipal Building is still open for normal business.

Effective March 25, 2020 at 8 am, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers issued a Safer at Home order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. This order will remain in effect until 8 am on April 24, 2020 or until a superseding order is issued. I will explain some of the highlights.

The Safer at Home order applies to the entire state. All Wisconsinites must stay at home as much as possible and non-essential businesses and operations must cease, with limited exceptions for minimum basic operations and work from home. All public and private gatherings of any number of people that are not part of a single household or living unit are prohibited.

Individuals do not need special permission or documentation to leave their homes, but they must comply with this order. Law enforcement will not be stopping vehicles just because you are out and about; however, if you are stopped for a traffic violation, you may be asked some questions about your purpose and travel. You may engage in outdoor activities that meet social distancing requirements. No team or contact sports are permitted. City Council made the decision to close all of our local parks effective March 24, 2020. You can walk through our parks but please do not congregate or play on the playground equipment.

Restaurants and bars may remain open only for take-out and delivery service of food. We would ask our local restaurants to strongly consider curbside pickup. Food and drink may not be consumed on the premises, either indoors or outdoors. All hair salons, barber shops, nail salons, day spas, etc. must close. Non-essential veterinary care should be avoided.

There are many great things going on in our community that I want to recognize. Director Mary Greuel with Seymour Rescue has been a vital part of our emergency management team from a public health and medical services perspective. Director Greuel has dedicated numerous hours to changing EMS procedures and protocols to protect her staff and safely attend to patients, requesting additional personal protective equipment, coordinating efforts with Seymour Fire for medical calls, and continually communicating with our emergency management team and city leaders. Department of Public Works is making necessary changes to ensure our Water & Waste Treatment facility continues to operate.

Mayor Kraft has been effectively communicating with all of the department heads on a regular basis and providing leadership to our community. Don’s Quality Market and their employees have been working non-stop to keep shelves stocked and essential items available. Thank you.

City leaders remain in constant communication to keep up to date on COVID-19. Our business owners have been very receptive to the Governor’s orders during this difficult time. I want our business owners to know that even though we are required to enforce the Governor’s orders, we want to work with you because you are valuable to our city. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with questions.

And last by not least, our citizens. Thank you for making our jobs easier by staying at home. Thank you for being patient and disciplined. This is an unprecedented time in our country. We need to look to each other for support and care for one another during this very difficult time. If you are doing better than most, please help someone who is struggling. If you know someone is struggling and you can’t help them, please call us so we can direct them to available services.

Stay healthy,

Chief Isaac Schultz
