Advisory

April 7 2020 Voting Information

SUBJECT: Your latest message from the City Clerk’s Office

As part of our continuing effort to provide guidance regarding recent litigation pertaining to the 2020 Spring Election process, the Sun Prairie City Clerk’s Office would like to bring the following to your attention:

We continue to follow the guidance we have received from the Wisconsin Elections Commission. First and foremost, the Spring Election and Presidential Preference Primary will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, April 7, 2020. The polls will be open from 7:00 AM until 8:00 PM for in person and curbside voting. Anyone in line at 8:00 PM will be allowed to vote, no matter how long the line is. All voting will occur at Sun Prairie High School located at 888 Grove Street.

Please be aware the United States Supreme Court ruled on the deadline for absentee ballots late on Monday, April 6, 2020. Under this ruling, in order for absentee ballots to be counted, they must be postmarked before midnight on April 7 and received by 4:00 PM on April 13. Alternatively, absentee ballots may be hand-delivered to the polls by 8:00 pm on Election Day, April 7, 2020. Ballots postmarked after midnight on April 7 or hand-delivered after 8:00 PM on April 7 will not be counted.

Absentee ballots can be dropped off at the high school or at the drop-boxes located at City Hall, 300 E Main Street, Sun Prairie Utilities, 125 W Main Street and the Westside Community Services Building, 2598 W Main Street. These drop-boxes will be checked throughout the day. If you will be utilizing a drop-box, please place your absentee ballot in the drop-box before 7:30 PM, as that will the last pick-up time.

It is possible that some voters may not have received their ballots. In order to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to cast their vote, please consider the following. If you have not received your ballot in the mail, we encourage you to consider casting your vote in person at the Sun Prairie High School.

Please be assured that City staff have been working hard to ensure social distancing measures are in place to make voting as safe as possible for election officials and voters. This includes having hand sanitizer readily available, installing Plexiglass dividers, disinfecting surfaces and encouraging social distancing throughout the entire voting process.

We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this together.
