4/10/2020: A new message from First Selectman Jim Marpe.

First Selectman Jim Marpe’s Message

Westport, CT – First Selectman Jim Marpe issued the following message today.

These are unprecedented times, to say the least. There is understandable strain and anxiety. But there have been positive experiences as well. I am encouraged by the outpouring of support for the Westport Food Fund and the donations that have come in to the Town donation center (links below). We are keeping our focus on people who are severely limited and affected by this horrible virus. We must continue to support and encourage those among us who are struggling physically, financially, and emotionally, including our local small businesses. We can do that through simple acts of kindness, and wherever possible, provide both monetary and in-kind donations. Many have already contributed and we thank each and every one of you.

Social distancing is working and the signs are encouraging. But we certainly cannot become complacent now. I have seen many of the unique ways you have physically distanced from neighbors while maintaining social and emotional contact. I am also impressed with the resilience and fortitude of all of our young and young-at-heart residents who continue to be positive and uplifting through these challenging times. Our first responders, town personnel, healthcare professionals and essential workers are doing an amazing job and I can’t emphasize enough how grateful we are for their service.

This weekend, as Easter is observed, as we experience the renewal of our natural environment, and as we continue to celebrate the redemption of the Passover story, please consider the blessings of our community. Let us take the time to be grateful for those things that we DO have. The companionship and inspiring attitude of neighbors, friends and family will keep us moving forward. Together, we are resolute and we will be stronger than ever.

Please continue to self-isolate, quarantine if necessary, socially distance yourself and, as much as possible, stay at home. Remember, you’re not stuck at home, you’re safe at home.
