COVID-19 CITY PARKS CLOSURE EFFECTIVE 2PM APRIL 10, 2020 UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE PER COVINA EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 2020-01
The City of Covina continues to expand efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19 with the closure of ALL city parks, effective Friday April 10th at 2PM. The closure will remain in effect until further notice.
The City of Covina Emergency Operations Team will continue to follow the lead of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in implementing protocols to protect the health and safety of everyone in public spaces and in providing accurate and timely updates to the community.
Again, the intent of PARK CLOSURES is to avoid the spread of COVID-19 by having people stay at home, while enabling only essential services to continue.
As a reminder, there is currently a prohibition on gatherings pursuant to Section 1 of the March 21 Los Angeles County Health Order, which provides: “1. Effective immediately on March 21, 2020 and continuing through April 19, 2020, all public and private group events and gatherings are prohibited anywhere within the Los Angeles County Public Health Jurisdiction (this includes the CITY OF COVINA). All persons are to remain in their homes or at their place of residence, except to travel to and from Essential Businesses, to work at or provide service to a Healthcare Operation or Essential Infrastructure, to engage in Essential Activities, or to participate in an individual or family outdoor activity, while practicing social distancing.”
The decision to close City of Covina Parks is consistent with keeping our community safe and failure to comply with the provisions of this action constitutes a threat to public health.
The order to “just stay home is not a polite suggestion”. It is an urgent plea for the community to join in the fight to save lives – not only their own, but also first responders and health care workers on the front lines risking their lives daily. As a chief of police, I have often been asked by many of our caring and generous community members how they can help our officers and department. Today, nothing could be of more help or importance than to simply comply with the orders.
Very respectfully,
Chief John Curley
