Wayne County Health Department in an effort to control and prevent the spread of COVID 19 in our community continues to work with local healthcare providers and other community partners to identify confirmed positive COVID 19 cases.  Currently 79 Wayne County residents have met the criteria for testing and 0 have been confirmed positive for COVID 19.
 
Remember not everyone who has respiratory symptoms like cough and shortness of breath needs to be tested. Similarly, not everyone who is infected with novel coronavirus needs medical treatment. We want to make sure those at higher risk of severe illness are prioritized for testing and that they can receive the medical care they need.  Information so far suggests that most COVID-19 illness is mild. However, older people and people of all ages with severe chronic medical conditions, like heart disease, lung disease, and diabetes, seem to be at higher risk of developing serious illness. It is crucial that we limit contact with older people and those with certain health conditions.
 
DO YOUR PART TO PREVENT COVID 19:
 

• Limit trips away from home to work, groceries/food, gas, checking on elderly family members, exercise
• Maintain a physical distance of at least 6 feet from others when out
• We ask those who have mild symptoms to stay home so the health care system is not overwhelmed.  Contact your healthcare provider if you need medical attention
• Take care of yourself and boost your immune system through adequate sleep, stress management, healthy diet and exercise.
• Wash hands frequently and cover your cough
• Follow CDC (cdc.gov), IDPH and the Illinois Coronavirus (coronavirus.illinois.gov) website, and WCHD platforms (www.wchdil.com and Facebook) for guidance

 
The Wayne County community should be commended for their efforts to prevent the spread of COVID 19 thru social distancing and other disease prevention activities.  Let’s continue to practice these preventive measures and stop COVID 19 in Wayne County.
