The crew of 40King conducted hoist rescue of a 2-year-old after his father crashed his car and ran from the police

SUSPECT: Jason Napp, 31 years old, resident of San Bernardino

SUMMARY:
Jason Napp and a female resident of Yucaipa have children together. Napp was previously arrested for domestic violence against the female.
On April 14, 2020, the female allowed Napp to visit with the children at the Yucaipa residence. While inside the residence, Napp and the female argued, and he threatened to leave with their 2-year-old son. Napp eventually took the child and left the residence and the female called for deputies.
A short time later, Napp rolled his vehicle on Live Oak Canyon, south of Interstate 10, just inside the City of Redlands. Napp fled the scene on foot with the child and witnesses followed Napp and reported the incident to Redlands Police. Redlands police responded and pursued Napp as he fled into a deep ravine while holding the child.
Redlands Police Officers and Yucaipa deputies negotiated with Napp who eventually surrendered the child and was taken into custody. The child had minor injuries and, due to the treacherous terrain, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Aviation Division hoisted the child out of the ravine. The child was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Napp was ultimately taken into custody and booked at Central Detention Center where he will face child endangerment abduction charges stemming from the Yucaipa portion of this incident. He may face additional charges based on the Redlands Police Department investigation.
