Mayor's Local Update on COVID-19
An Announcement from the Office of the Mayor
Coronavirus COVID-19 Local Update
April 15, 2020
Our Haledon Community:
I hope everyone is remaining patient and #HaledonStrong as we continue combating COVID-19 together. As of this writing, there have been 125 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Haledon and 6,750 confirmed cases throughout Passaic County. Two (2) Haledon residents are currently in the hospital and the rest are recuperating at home. Haledon is currently at 6 deaths related to complications of COVID-19, which has been confirmed by the Passaic County Health Department. I extend my deepest condolences to everyone affected by this pandemic. Please be advised that New Jersey has over 71,030 confirmed cases of COVID-19. However, it is encouraging to know that, according to the New Jersey Department of Health, 72,991 residents of New Jersey have tested negative for COVID-19. I would also like to bring the following to your attention:
• Please be advised the federal government has begun dispersing stimulus checks also known as the Economic Impact Payment. For more information regarding payment eligibility and/or payment status, please visit https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment;
• The Haledon Board of Health and the Passaic County Department of Health and Human Services are investigating complaints regarding possible positive exposure for COVID-19 by employees at a local pharmacy. Customers are advised to adhere strictly to the guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) for personal hygiene when entering any essential business. If you believe an employer, organization, or entity is violating any Executive Order and/or COVID-19 restrictions, please be advised that you may report any violations directly to the State at https://covid19.nj.gov/forms/violation;
• Our residents will begin seeing signs around the borough and a banner across Belmont Avenue thanking our first responders, healthcare workers, food industry workers, delivery workers and DPW workers who continue making sacrifices in their committed effort to help save lives;
• Governor Phil Murphy recently signed Executive Order No. 126, prohibiting cable and telecommunications providers from terminating Internet and voice service due to nonpayment until thirty (30) days after the current public health emergency has ended. The order also mandates that all service downgrades, service reductions, or late fees due to nonpayment are prohibited and any Internet or voice service that was disconnected after March 16, 2020 due to nonpayment must be reconnected;
• Additional New Jersey Auto Insurance Companies (including New Jersey Manufactures, Allstate, Farmers, Plymouth Rock, Amica, MetLife, Progressive, GEICO, State Farm, Travelers, and Liberty Mutual so far) plan to return portions of premiums and/or offer relief during the COVID-19 crisis;
• Please be reminded that Governor Phil Murphy issued an Executive Order mandating all residents to wear masks in grocery stores as COVID-19 cases and deaths continue to climb. To lessen overcrowding, all “essential retail” stores will only be permitted to allow up to 50 percent of their approved capacity inside. All customers and employees will be required to wear face coverings while inside the store, and businesses must supply employees with masks, coverings and gloves;
• The community is urged to properly dispose their gloves, masks, or any other personal protective equipment. Regardless, someone still has to pick them up and be exposed to unwanted germs. The Haledon Police Department will be strongly enforcing littering violations; and
• The Passaic County Health Department continues to administer COVID-19 daily testing, generally Monday through Saturday, 9:00AM to 12:00PM, in Lot 6 of William Paterson University. You must be a Passaic County resident and you must have a prescription from a healthcare provider. If you are in need of a prescription, you may utilize the telehealth service being offered by Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center for a fee. Please visit www.stjosephshealth.org/telehealth for more information regarding the telehealth program.
Again, we implore you to remain home and only travel for a legitimate, essential purpose. The practice of physical, social distancing continues to be paramount. For any updates, please visit our borough website, www.haledonboronj.com.
