“LIGHT UP THE NIGHT” A message from the director

During this time of uncertainty with the COVID – 19 virus, please rest assured knowing The Muskegon Police Department is out in full force patrolling the streets and neighborhoods with your protection and safety as a top priority. In addition to our normal patrol functions we have utilized additional staff to patrol the streets for criminal behavior and your safety. We however are graciously asking for your continued support and assistance by taking a few small steps to deter criminal behavior and insure your safety.

First, please continue to keep your vehicles, residences, sheds, etc. locked to deter would be criminals. Also, please do not leave valuables in plain sight whether n your car or at your residence. In addition, leave your porch light or other lighting on to let people know you are home.

If you do observe suspicious or criminal behavior please report it immediately to 911. Please, when safe to do so, pass along information such as suspect race, gender, height, weight, clothing and anything else distinctive such as green Nike shoes for example. Also relay vehicle information such as make, model and color and other distinctions such as missing a bumper or a dent on the driver’s side door for example.

Second, please continue to follow the Governor’s executive orders by keeping your distance (6 feet) from others and avoid large social gatherings. Please follow these orders to keep yourself, your family and fellow citizens safe.
