Masks to be Required Beginning April 22 - Danville Update
Health Order Requires Masks at Essential Businesses
A new Public Health Order from Contra Costa Health Services will require everyone to wear a mask under certain conditions to help curb the spread of the coronavirus. This is in addition to the current Shelter in Place Order. It expands, not replaces, that order.
The new order, which takes effect at 8:00 a.m. on April 22, 2020, requires the public to wear masks when:
1. Visiting an essential business such as the grocery store
2. Working at an essential business
3. Visiting a healthcare provider or facility
4. Waiting for or using public transportation
Per the county, businesses must take reasonable measures, such as posting signs, to remind visitors about masking and refuse service to customers who do not observe the order.
When a Mask is NOT Required:
1. When driving alone, or with family, in your personal vehicle
2. When alone in an office (mask shall be required if someone else enters)
3. When engaged in vigorous physical activity outdoors (Keep Social Distancing)
4. Children under the age of 12 are not required to wear them. Masks should NOT be used on those 2 and under due to risk of suffocation.
What Can A Face Covering Be?
1. Anything made of cloth, fabric or other permeable material
2. Must cover nose and mouth (lower half of the face)
3. Medical grade masks are NOT required
4. Masks with one-way valves for easy breathing do NOT count as face coverings

Clarifications to Gardeners and Pool Maintenance
One of the most common questions and concerns we hear from the community is regarding gardeners and landscapers. In the past few weeks we have received over 250 calls for service having to do with the Shelter in Place Order, and 42% of them have had to do with this topic. We have been in constant communication with the county seeking direction on when gardeners are allowed to come. This week we have received some clarification to the earlier direction we were given on this issue.
GARDENERS:
Direction from the county stated that gardeners can come and work if there is a life safety issue or the work is necessary for proper sanitation on the property. As of today, we have been informed that this directive can be applied if a lawn becomes overgrown to the point where the resident is at risk of injury due to high grass, weeds, or landscape waste on sidewalks. Additionally, gardeners are allowed to trim hedges and vegetation to prevent rodent infestation.
Because of the social distancing and masking requirements of the Shelter in Place Order, any gardeners coming to service a customer should be working alone or practice social distancing and wear a mask if working with partners.
Pool Maintenance
Under the health order, pool maintenance is allowed to continue due to the hazard created by not properly maintaining a body of water. Such a body of water can become a vector for the spread of the mosquito population so proper maintenance and sanitation is required.
As with gardeners, pool maintenance personnel should be working alone or practicing social distancing if working with partners and wearing a mask while on premises.
Farmers’ Market Vendors Offer Market Boxes
While we wait for the resumption of the Danville Farmers’ Market, residents will still have the opportunity to receive farm fresh produce and meat delivered to their homes by ordering Market Boxes. These packages of goods can be ordered online through Borba Farms, Fully Belly Farms, and Victorian Farmstead Meat Company. Curbside pick-up options for groceries are also available at Choicelunch Pantry and Pete’s Brass Rail (Pete’s Groceries). Order online for easy pick-up.
Town Recreation Staff to Hold Virtual Pizza Party
The Town of Danville’s ‘Ambassadors of Fun’ are giving the community a chance for a little online frivolity with an upcoming Virtual Pizza Party. This first-ever event will be a pizza party using the Zoom app. The event is set for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22.
Participants can order pizza through our partners, Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria, Blue Line Pizza, and Pizza Guys, and then join our Recreation staff online. It’s a chance to support local businesses and meet your Town staff.
Register for our Virtual Pizza Party through our website www.danville.ca.gov/recguide using activity code #25963. A few days before the event, participants will receive an email with instructions for logging into the Zoom meeting as well as information on discounts with our partners. Look forward to seeing you online!
