Ocean Township Office of Emergency Management COVID-19 Update

The Ocean Township Office of Emergency Management continues to work with the Ocean Township Police Department, Waretown First Aid Squad, Waretown Fire Company and the Township of Ocean Committee along with officials from the county, state, health department and school district to address this ever changing situation.
This afternoon the Ocean County Health Department notified us that we had NO new cases of COVID-19 in town today. The total number of positive residents in Ocean Township remains at twenty-five (25). Please note the total estimated population according the Census Bureau for Ocean Township is 9,049 which equals approximately .276% infection among residents in town.
At this time, the Ocean County Health Department is leading the investigation in the case and is the agency responsible for additional notifications. As testing sites and the availability of tests within the southern part of the state increase we will inevitably see an increase of positive cases within our town, this has been expected and it has been planned for.

As time progresses, the Office of Emergency Management will provide you with regular briefings on what is taking place in the community. We will keep you updated on information on closings and postponements and the latest information concerning the virus from county and state offices as it applies to the Township of Ocean.
Township of Ocean:
Please note that the Township of Ocean Committee shared your concern and was not consulted on the decision to move the testing site to the Ocean County Fire Training Academy.
When the Township was informed, Mayor Baulderstone with the support of the Township Committee, immediately contacted the Ocean County Office of Emergency Management, who originally made the decision, to express and discuss the displeasure and objection with the location. Mayor Baulderstone also contacted the Ocean County Freeholders to discuss the town’s absolute objection to the site being moved to this location.
Early this afternoon, the Township of Ocean Committee was notified that the decision to move the testing site to Waretown was REVERSED and the testing site will remain in Toms River, NJ at Ocean County College.
County of Ocean:
All county parks included the Barnegat Rail Trail remain closed until further notice.

State of New Jersey:

Local Information:
ShopRite of Waretown has reserved the first hour after their daily store opening for CDC’s defined “High Risk” population.
Homestead Benefit Tax Credit:
The Township of Ocean has been informed by the New Jersey Department of Treasury that as a result of the State’s economic uncertainty due the unprecedented onset of COVID-19, a freeze was placed on the distribution of Homestead Benefit Credits.
Regrettably, if you qualified, you will not receive a revised May 1st property tax bill reflecting the Homestead Rebate Credit and will have to PAY THE AMOUNY INDICTED ON THE 2ND QUARTER STUB which is on your green tac bill which was mailed in July, 2019.

- Check dropped in the drop box located outside of Townhall
- Check mailed to: Township of Ocean, Attn; Tax Collector 50 Railroad Ave. Waretown, NJ 08758
- Payments can be made at www.twpoceannj.gov (additional fees apply with this option)
