On 04/18/2020, patrol deputies from the Camarillo Police Department and detectives from the Camarillo Special Enforcement Detail arrested Yakov Rozenoyer of Glendale California. Rozenoyer was attempting to sell a U-Haul vehicle to a Camarillo resident under false pretenses. Rozenoyer provided the victim with a forged Certificate of Title and removed the U-Haul decals.

On April 18th, 2020, a Camarillo resident contacted the Camarillo Police Department regarding a suspicious Craigslist advertisement for a vehicle for sale. The reporting party was prepared to meet the seller in Camarillo to complete the transaction, but was concerned about a possible scam. Prior to the transaction the seller sent the reporting party a picture of the vehicle, the Certificate of Title, and the license plate.

Patrol deputies from the Camarillo Police Station met with the reporting party and initiated an investigation of the Craigslist advertisement. Deputies determined the license plate of the advertised vehicle did not match the vehicle identification number (VIN) or the information on the Certificate of Title. Based on the initial investigation, deputies suspected the seller was possibly attempting to sell a stolen vehicle.

Detectives from the Camarillo Special Enforcement Detail (SED) were contacted and immediately joined in the investigation.  Detectives subsequently located the vehicle and detained the suspect in the 90 block of Daily Drive in Camarillo. During the course of the investigation, detectives confirmed the vehicle belonged to U-Haul and was rented out of Inglewood California approximately one month prior.  Detectives confirmed the U-Haul decals had been removed, the license plate belonged to a different vehicle and the Certificate of Title had been forged.

The suspect observed driving the vehicle initially provided a false name and date of birth to deputies. During a search, a California Driver’s License was located which positively identified the suspect as Yakov Rozenoyer of Glendale California. Rozenoyer was arrested and booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility for PC 664/ 532(a) – Attempted Theft by False Pretenses, PC 148.9 – Providing False Information to a Peace Officer and CVC 4463 – Vehicle Registration Fraud. Detectives are currently working with U-Haul representatives regarding the stolen vehicle investigation.
