INCIDENT: Grand Theft / Felony Warrant Arrest
LOCATION: 35000 block of Fremont Ct., Yucaipa
SUSPECT(S): Dustin Evans, age 36 a resident of Banning
VICTIM(S): Female, a resident of Yucaipa
SUMMARY:
On April 20, 2020, at approximately 5:55 a.m., deputies received a call from a resident who, through a Ring camera, observed a male stealing items from her car. Deputies were told the suspect fled on foot eastbound from the home and they began searching for the suspect.
As neighbors of the victim became aware of the crime, they came out of their homes and started looking around the area for the suspect. An observant neighbor saw change on the ground under a trailer and thought the suspect might have hidden there. When deputies checked, they found the suspect was still hiding lying on top of the axles under the utility trailer. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Deputies recovered approximately $4,000 worth of stolen property, including purses and jewelry, from under the trailer and were returned to the victim.
The suspect, Dustin Evans, was found to be on probation out of Riverside County on a vehicle theft charge and had a felony warrant for vehicle theft, also out of Riverside County. He was arrested for the new charge of grand theft and booked into the Central Detention Center. He would have been released on his new charge due to the zero-dollar bail rules now in place; however, because he had a felony warrant from Riverside County, he remains in custody on that warrant.
