Officers continued their investigation into the vehicle theft and were able to locate and arrest Crocket resident Matthew Robert Smith, 37, for driving a stolen vehicle, looting during the pandemic, possession of stolen property, and for being a felon in possession of a stun gun.  Smith is also being held on a parole violation and will be booked at the County Jail in Martinez.

On April 23, 2020, at 0450 hours, Danville officers responded to the 600 block of El Pintado Road for a vehicle that had just been stolen from the owner's property.  Officers located the vehicle at 0517 hours, in the area of El Alamo and Nathan Ln, a short distance from the theft.  The suspect drove a short distance with officers following before stopping the stolen vehicle at the end of El Rio Ct and fled on foot.  

An extensive search was conducted using several officers from Danville PD and Deputies from the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office, a K9, and an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) to attempt to locate the suspect.  

The search for the suspect was called off at 0620 hours.  The male suspect remains outstanding.
