Mayor's Statement COVID-19 Local Update
An Announcement from the Office of the Mayor
Coronavirus COVID-19 Local Update
April 24, 2020
Our Haledon Community:
I hope everyone is still remaining patient and #HaledonStrong as we continue combating COVID-19 together. As of this writing, there have been 183 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Haledon and 9,671 confirmed cases throughout Passaic County. 3 Haledon residents are currently in the hospital and the rest are recuperating at home. Haledon is currently at 9 deaths related to complications of COVID-19, which has been confirmed by the Passaic County Health Department. Again, I extend my deepest condolences to everyone affected by this pandemic. Please be advised that New Jersey has over 102,196 confirmed cases of COVID-19. However, it is encouraging to know that, according to the New Jersey Department of Health, 103,766 residents of New Jersey have tested negative for COVID-19. I would also like to bring the following to your attention:
• Health officials are seeking medical professionals to assist with COVID-19 Contact Tracing. If you are interested, please contact Haledon Board of Health Secretary Nebojsa "Vic" Zlatanovic, Esq., at (973) 595-7766 Extension 111 and/or [email protected];
• The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Save Small Business Fund is a grant making initiative offering short-term relief for small employers in the United States. It is an effort to provide $5,000 grants to as many small employers as possible. To qualify for this grant, you must: 1.) Employ between 3 and 20 people; 2.) Be located in an economically vulnerable community; and 3.) Have been harmed financially by the COVID-19 pandemic. To apply, a short application is available at https://savesmallbusiness.com/ - all you will need to apply is your business’s W-9 form;
• Please be reminded the federal government has begun dispersing stimulus checks also known as the Economic Impact Payment. For more information regarding payment eligibility and/or payment status, please visit https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment;
• If you believe an employer, organization, or entity is violating any Executive Order and/or COVID-19 restrictions, please be advised that you may report any violations directly to the State at https://covid19.nj.gov/forms/violation;
• A banner has been posted across Belmont Avenue thanking our first responders, healthcare workers, food industry workers, delivery workers and DPW workers who continue making sacrifices in their committed effort to help save lives;
• Please be reminded that Governor Phil Murphy issued an Executive Order mandating all residents to wear masks in grocery stores as COVID-19 cases and deaths continue to climb. To lessen overcrowding, all “essential retail” stores will only be permitted to allow up to 50 percent of their approved capacity inside. All customers and employees will be required to wear face coverings while inside the store, and businesses must supply employees with masks, coverings and gloves;
• The community is urged to properly dispose their gloves, masks, or any other personal protective equipment. Regardless, someone still has to pick them up and be exposed to unwanted germs. The Haledon Police Department will be strongly enforcing littering violations; and
• The Passaic County Health Department continues to administer COVID-19 daily testing, generally Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 9:00AM to 12:00PM, in Lot 6 of William Paterson University. During inclement weather, the testing site is generally closed. You must be a Passaic County resident and you must have a prescription from a healthcare provider. If you are in need of a prescription, you may utilize the telehealth service being offered by Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center for a fee. Please visit www.stjosephshealth.org/telehealth for more information regarding the telehealth program.
Again, we implore you to remain home and only travel for a legitimate, essential purpose. The practice of physical, social distancing continues to be paramount. For any updates, please visit our borough website, www.haledonboronj.com.
