Deputies responded to a vacant home on Arrowbear Drive for an explosive device that was found to be inert

LOCATION: 33000 Block of Arrowbear Drive in the Community of Arrowbear
SUMMARY: On Sunday, April 26, 2020, deputies from the Twin Peaks Sheriff's Station received a report of a possible explosive device found outside of a vacant residence in the 33000 block of Arrowbear Drive in the community of Arrowbear. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a corroded "M67" style hand grenade outside of the home with the triggering mechanism and pull ring assembly still appearing intact.
With the assistance of San Bernardino County Fire and Cal Fire personnel, deputies established a perimeter and evacuated homes within the potential blast range of the grenade.
San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Bomb/Arson Detail was notified and responded to assist with the investigation. The grenade was determined to be inert and rendered safe. It was removed from the location and transported to the Twin Peaks Station for destruction.
