Advisory

Sausalito Parking Restrictions for the Weekend of May 2-3

On Saturday, April 25 many people chose to visit Sausalito and violate the provisions of the Public Health Order that banned non-essential travel. This unlawful behavior endangers everyone in our community as well as endangering those who choose to violate the Stay-at-Home orders. As of Sunday April 26 the City of Sausalito has placed restrictions on parking in the downtown area.

We ask people to please stay at home in their own community unless engaged in allowable essential travel or business. Electronic message boards have been placed at either end of Bridgeway and the Spencer Frontage Road to alert motorists about the closure of the downtown parking lots weekends and holidays, and that through traffic should be restricted to essential travel and business only.

Municipal Parking Lots #1-4 in downtown Sausalito will be closed to all vehicles on weekends and holidays. Signs will be posted at the parking lot entrances and no vehicle access will be permitted beginning at 7:00 AM Saturday until 9:00 PM Sunday. Vehicles found parking in these lots during closures will be subject to citation. Downtown Municipal Parking Lots will continue to operate normally Monday through Friday, except holidays, to accommodate allowed essential travel and business.

During the Municipal Lot closures Sausalito residents, downtown merchants, and their employees should park in metered spaces on the street with their parking permits displayed on the rear bumper or their parking card displaced on the vehicle’s dashboard.

There are no additional permits being issued or required during this closure. Until the restriction is lifted residents, merchants and employees displaying valid permits and parking cards will not be required pay the parking meter and may park in excess of the posted 3-hour time limits. Short-term use of a metered parking space will be allowed in order to accommodate essential travel, such as picking up a to-go food order from a downtown restaurant.

In response to vehicles parking illegally in restricted residential areas throughout the city, the police department will be resuming regular enforcement for violators in those areas.

Sausalito Police Department will begin citing for non-essential travel and safe-distancing violations. Violators will no longer be warned but instead will be issued citations that carry a fine of $500.00.

Please remember that complying with public health orders can help keep everyone safe. We can all do our part to limit the spread of COVID-19 by sheltering at home as much as possible and wearing face coverings when we are out in public. Stay close to your own neighborhood for fresh air and sunshine, and only use your car for essential activities, such as grocery shopping.
