Advisory

May 1st Quarterly Property Tax Payment and Updated Township Information.

Dear Homeowners:

Hope you and your families are all well.

Governor Murphy signed an Executive Order (EO) allowing the municipality the option of extending the grace period for the May 1st quarterly property tax payment.

Prior to the Governor's EO, we did review the matter with our Township Attorney, about extending the grace period. We were advised that their was no mechanism for us to do it, outside an EO from the Governor.

Which, you may or may not be aware was signed on Tuesday.

I would like to bring to your attention, We already have a 10-day grace period built in. The May 1st quarterly tax payment Is not due until Monday May 11th.

We are scheduling a special Council meeting next week to discuss extending the grace period another 20 days,  to June 1st.

I am confident that will be approved.

However, we are encouraging those with the means to pay, that are unaffected by the COVID-19 Pandemic, to please consider paying on time or by May 11th.

Those of you who have been affected by the COVID-19 closures, we encourage you to PLEASE take advantage of the 20 extra days to June 1st.

As you know Berkeley Township Municipal offices are closed to the public due to the pandemic.

However, our staff is working everyday to make sure our Township is providing the services our taxpayers expect, especially during these uncertain times.

We look forward to opening soon and directly serving our constituents.

For your convenience We have developed a "skip the trip" form to better serve you.

In the meanwhile, please be advised that tax payments may be made by mail or if you do take a drive to Town Hall, there is a secure drop box along the exit driveway.

Payments can also be made on-line, but please be advised that there is a transaction fee charged by the banking institution not the Township.

We have extended our hours of operation at the Berkeley Township Recycling Center, 627 Pinewald-Keswick Road, Bayville. The center is open 7 days a week. We have extended the recycling center hours for the next two weeks to help accommodate residents. The center will be open Monday thru Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. The center is also open on the weekends between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm.

We ask that everyone that does not need to go out for work, food or appointments, to please stay home. We are all doing our part to “Flatten the Curve”.

Our Township Parks remain open for passive recreation only. Walking, running or bike riding. When visiting our parks or just walking in your neighborhoods, please practice social distancing.

Beginning on Saturday, May 2nd, the Cedar Creek Golf Course will also reopen, as will the two State parks located in Berkeley Township. Island Beach State Park and Double Trouble State Park will only be allowed to be at 50% capacity. The State Park Police will be enforcing this and social distancing.

The County Freeholders announced yesterday, they will also be opening John C. Bartlett, Jr., County Park at Berkeley Island as well.

As of this writing, Berkeley Township had 433 confirmed cases of COVID-19. That represents roughly 1% of our total population.  Sadly, we have lost 50 residents to COVID-19. May they rest in peace.

I thank you all for your understanding and compliance during these unprecedented times. We are all in this together.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email me at: [email protected] or by phone: 732-244-7400 ext: 1203.
