Wood Chipping Available Today
This is a reminder to our residents and neighbors that to help decrease the risk of wildland fires, Houston Fire Department will be hosting our 4th annual wood chipping to commemorate National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day today (Saturday, May 2, 2020) from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm at Fire Station 9-2.
Bring in any limbs, stick, and trees up to 6 inches in diameter and we can chip them up. You can take the chips or leave them, and any remaining chips will be available free of charge to anybody who would like some. It's a great alternative to burning and provides wood chips for many people with outside animal pens and garden nurseries.
Additional requirements this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic will be that individuals bringing wood will be required to unload the material they are dropping off and firefighters will chip it for them. Anybody wanting to collect wood chips will be required to bring their own bags or boxes, and their own shovel if they'll be needing one.
Call 907-355-8794 if you have any questions. Yes, there is a burn permit suspension; but most importantly there is always an alternative to burning. Let's keep our forests and homes upright this year!
Fire Station 9-2 is at 990 S. Kenlar Road in Houston.
Many thanks to National Fire Protection Agency and State Farm for making this program a success. Visit https://www.nfpa.org/Public-Education/Fire-causes-and-risks/Wildfire/National-Wildfire-Community-Preparedness-Day for more information.
