Domestic Violence arrest of El Verano resident after Sonoma PD K9 and Henry-1 response.
PRESS RELEASE:
SONOMA POLICE DEPARTMENT
Case # 20-0000326
On Friday 5/1/2020 around 4:30 in the afternoon, Deputies from the Sonoma Police Department responded to the 100 block of E. Macarthur Street in response to a Domestic Violence incident. While driving into the area, Sonoma Police Department’s K9 Deputy Minaglia located the female victim driving on Broadway, away from the original scene. The victim was the driver and only occupant of the vehicle. The male had fled the scene.
The K9 Deputy contacted the victim, determined a dating relationship between the male suspect and female victim. The Deputy keenly noticed injuries consistent with domestic violence. Further inquiries into the event determined that the victim was pulled back into the car, and was restrained from leaving. Deputies determined the suspect was Marcus Daniel Lua, an El Verano resident in his 40’s, known to the local deputies. Prior contacts with Lua revealed he frequently fled from Law Enforcement.
Sonoma County Sheriff’s Helicopter H-1 was on routine patrol and responded to the area to check for Lua. H-1 located Lua in a construction parcel on the corner of Broadway and Clay Streets. Deputy Minaglia and his K9 partner “Vito” responded to the construction zone, while Valley Substation Deputies and Sonoma Police Deputies set up a perimeter to contain Lua. Lua was spotted several times attempting to flee the zone.
Lua ultimately surrendered, and was taken into custody without injury or further incident, following a K9 announcement.
Lua was transported to the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility and booked for False Imprisonment, Domestic Violence, resisting/obstructing arrest, and a violation of his probation.
